Butterfly Fly Away
Kenya Stephens 1995 (Van Wert)
Spread your wings,
Even if they are battered and broken.
Shake the dust off of them.
Flap a couple times to feel the wind beneath.
Feel that beautiful bright sunshine.
Go be free butterfly.
You don't deserve any of this abuse.
This isn't your forever home Love.
Think of it as leaving the nest.
Your brain might tell you this is forever, but it isn't.
You can be truly happy if you leap into the crisp air and go forward.
Don't look back either.
There you go,
pick that chin up and fly!
You're doing it!
See the world,
for you aren't locked in a dark cage any longer.
That smile looks so good on you.
I know it'll be scary with the new surroundings,
but you got this!
You've always had it.
It just took some deep stuff to happen to open your eyes.
I'm proud of you.
So is everyone who supports you.
Fly butterfly.
Butterfly fly away.
About this poem
I wrote this today while a butterfly landed on my window. To me, I took it as a sign to finally start living for me. To be free. Like the butterfly as she flew away, I wanted to too. The butterfly is me. Thank you.
