Who do wee see?
Looking into the mirror and what do I see?
I see just one of me. But what do you see?
I see a girl, whose run down, and has no care, wearing her dressed down pjs, and her hair all straggly. She is sad and teary,
also tired and weary.
Her eyes so glazed from her pain medicines, her smile has gone, under her eyes are tired and her skin so pale, she can’t stand, nor walk or barely sit, with pain and discomfort.
Pain has consumed her body,
Mentally and physically she can’t take it no more. She’s quiet and subdued. Labelled with chronic pain and disabled, her face tells a thousand tales, of strength and bravery. Stuck indoors alone, battling day by day, away from the world. She needs her stick or maybe her wheelchair to move around in, as she struggles so much with every step!
You look in the mirror and see me, but who do you see?
You see a girl, dressed smartly from head to toe, with a face of make up and her hair tied back. Her face has colour and her cheeks are rosy, her eyes are sparkly and she is smiling (you can’t see her pain or woes, they are hidden well!) You can’t see her pain within. She looks ready to start her day, looking pretty and wearing her boots. Smartly dressed and looking fine! She looks so well and beaming, yet you would not know of her chronic pain or hidden disability- because in your eyes, this girl is well and happy. You cannot see her illness, or disability, she has no stick, you cannot see her daily pills that she must take to stay alive. You can’t see her tears behind the make up and fake smile. You can’t see her suffering, nor know everyday is a constant battle, she has a family and friends, she must be happy, her life must be full of love. Although she has support and love surrounding her, you can’t see her loneliness. But you judge her by the way she looks and seems, yet is labelled with hidden disabilities and hidden illnesses, these can’t be physically seen. But if we’re to stop, and make conversation and ask, I’d tell you the honest truth, that everyday I fight for survival, through pain and hideous side effects, but I don’t want sympathy, I just want to raise awareness and be treated normally. Because at the end of the day you see, I’m as equal as you are to me. I have a life to live and a story to tell, different I totally agree. I shouldn’t be labelled for been different, I should be treated the same as everyone else you see!!! At the end of the day you are you and I am little old me!!!!
