Woodpecker

I hear explosions
A woodpecker in the trees
The spring is inevitable

About this poem

I am a Ukrainian. On February 24 my country was invaded by Russia. We have martial law installed and everybody who can fight is fighting. I just took my dog out for a walk 2 feet outside my house. We have a curfew until Monday morning. I could hear birds singing in the forest and a woodpecker sat on top of the pine tree in front of me. Explosions are sounding in the distance and are no longer phasing me. There’s not a lot I can do to support my army right now but at least I can write poetry.
