Onward

ONWARD!
I grip tight these fragile reins
Breakable like a spirit

ONWARD!
Static for bone marrow
Rot in the brain
Decomposition meets electricity

I do not wail
My chest no longer heaves
I do not scream
My lungs are filled with sighs
Too much of a ghost now

ONWARD!
Darker now are the nights
All blended into indigo

ONWARD!
A creeping light so dim
An artificial ray of sun
A punch to the gut

I do not shake
My body is tired
I do not run
My legs are like sand
I’d rather stay now

ONWARD!
So desperate to communicate
What a shame to have no voice

ONWARD!
There is love in this heart
It beats slowly but surely
What a thing to be alive
