Confused

We stood old and past our youth
Through our eyes the fear is near
The news is bleak
and hope all but disappeared
No words of comfort or tears
Can hide the hurt
and the sorrow so deep
Fragments of old memories
float a drift through our confused heads
The cries of the joy from children
wild in gardens and running among trees

Now we gather our broken souls
Leaving our tears to dry but never to heal  
Turned back to glance at the shattered faces
and whisper Our silent goodbyes.
