Words

I've been holding my breath in
For far too long.
Pretending like the world
Hasn't crashed around me.
All this air and yet;
I've wasted my time on nothing.
Feeling like a burden;
Trying to stay headstrong,
But to try isn't ever good enough.
Is it?
Depression hits like a bullet train.
Too fast;
Yet somehow not fast enough.
It takes a second to sink in.
Like I had no idea
What was about to come next.
Trying to speak a sentence,
But it gets stuck in my throat.
You look at me,
With eyes I know all too well.
They said "let me go, I can't take it."
I have become something,
Something that you hate.
Listen to these words,
That I've been dying to let out.
The weight I carry,
Has been far too much.
I've held my breath in,
For what felt like eternity.
Pretending like I mattered.
Like I somehow meant more than a letter.
But you see this world I'm in,
Has crashed way before
I could even blink.
Depression hits with only a moment's notice.
Trying to convey this sentence yet,
Words are failing me every minute.
They would've fallen upon deaf ears anyway....
