Longing for Peace

fear races through his mind
could she really be gone
how could he live without her
he couldn't, he wouldn't would he
but what to do
would he really die to be with her
how could he let her go
it was all wrong, he shouldn't
of left her, it was all his fault
the one person he loved
had cared for, longed for,
desired for was dead
her left her to give her time
but instead time took her
why? couldn't she lived
lived to be loved, cared for
and wanted or desired
his whole being was in despair
life was so unfair and wrong
but, oh how he longed for
a better time, remembering
her sweet laugh, the smell
of her hair and how she looked
life would go on, it had to
because he couldn't leave their
baby, not now - she needed him
more now than ever before
he would endure this life,
just to keep her safe
