Soothing Pain

Fasiu Adenekan 1969 (Maryland)

Memories of yesterday are calling
Bringing to the fore the deeds of time gone past
Loading ceaselessly about different times and people
Some so sweet to forget and some to confine to the shadow

In between laughter and joy
And the faces and souls behind the happiness
You wonder if they will come around again
And swell your pot of memories with reality
Alas, like writing on water! The winds have taken them away

You can only wallop in the beautiful pain
The present moment can afford
When you pay a visit to the past
Memories are made up of different moments
And when the participant(s) are done with us
We must grapple with the pain of their absence
And the beautiful memories they left behind
