Love = Disgust

They look you in the eye and they say, “I love you. I respect you. I am thankful for your existence in this world. I hope that you go to Heaven. I love you so very much.” They will smile, and make you a cup of tea, and they’ll invite you over for dinner.

I love you, they said.

Arguably, the heaviest, most powerful three words in the English Dictionary. When put together, the words are an instrument. An instrument that can be wielded to deceive and to cherish. Words mean so much, especially those three that hold so much power.

But then, the words are smashed with contradiction.

They look you in the eyes again and say, “I think that the way you live is disgusting. When you die, you’re going to rot in the depths of Hell. There was an error when the Creator was creating you. I do not agree with your existence. I hate the fact that you are alive. And I’m not going to let you around my children because you’re going to poison them with your ways. You are poison.”

And then a short breath, smile, and regaining of composure. “But I love you, and appreciate you. And I hope you live forever and all of your dreams fall right into your lap.”

That is what they say. The three most powerful words become powerless in a mere sentence.

It was like winning the lottery on the very same day your best friend died. Or finally finding a liver that is a match when an asteroid is seconds away from crashing into the hospital.

Your well wishes don’t mean much if they are covered in layers of hate. Hate that you don’t even realize is hate, which is definitely the worst kind.

I don’t understand why this is a thing.
