Myths Created To Fiction

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

In the midst of myths created to fiction,
And defended as truth...
Continues to undo,
Deception used as evidence to prove...
More fear to be threatened,
Their kept beliefs to value...
Are lies to have lived them too!
So many on both sides,
Have begun to feel betrayed.
And reluctantly made convinced.
It is going to take,
Much more than being conscious.
With a doing to stay awake.
Knowing it may still not be too late,
To save the only place they call home...
From becoming,
A land once the envy of the World.
Diminished,
By those who wish to want and get...
Their image to be depicted,
Other than conductors instructing...
An irreversible destruction.
At their own ignorant expense.

'I don't get it!'

'You don't get what?'

'The racism, hatred, bigotry and division.
Aren't these the people,
Who lay out on beaches...
To get their skins suntanned?
When and wherever they can?
And travel to take vacations,
On various islands.
Serviced by those,
Brown, Black...
And obviously of ethnic diversity.
Coming to leave treated with respect.
With a shown dignity to accept.'

'Your point?'

'Well...
Perhaps what they get to expect,
Somewhere else.
Is missing from them to show,
A service shown to others.
To believe they are owed,
Servitude.
As if idols to worship,
The ground they walk upon.
Where on God's Earth,
Did this nonsense begin to start?'

'Hmmm...
Hypothetically speaking.
Could it possibly be,
We are all in the midst...
Of myths created to fiction them.
And made to defend,
A nonexistent truth.
That has become our purpose and reason,
To pledge our allegiance and patriotism?'

'It sounds good.
But something is missing.'

'Missing?
Like what?'

'What began as an experiment,
Can not stay to remain great...
Without deliberate updates.
To accommodate,
The changing of times.
And the minds of those,
Nolonger living where the Buffalo roam.
Or travel cross country,
In horse driven to pull covered wagons.
No disrespect,
To the founding fathers' ancestors.
Knowing nothing about the internet.
Tweets to Twitter or Tiks to Tok.
Selfies or downloaded,
Naked yet headless private parts.'

'You could not resist. Huh?'

'What?
However...
It may be just my observation.
But...
Times have changed dramatically.'

'Remember this...
Progress for many,
Takes a while to adjust!'

'Adjust?
Between you and me,
If it had not been for ethnic diversity?
We all would still be rubbing rocks.
And not knocking designer boots.
To heat up a fire close enough to sweat.'

'Why?
Why is it always sex with you?
Why?'

'Where is your mind?
I'm talking about myths, deception.
And lies heard to whisper,
In ears to anticipate...
Something hot to get started!
And trust me...
I have done enough roaming,
On the range in my days.
To have done my own history research.
And not one Buffalo did I see.
Or Antelope playing gleefully.
Begging to be shot and stopped,
By a warring face painted Native Indian.

Although...
Hear me out.
Wolves, Bobcats and Mountain Lions?
Could care less,
Who is roasting marshmallows...
On a stick sitting near a camp fire!
Believe that.
They lay close and ready,
To taste the flesh of a thick hip or two!'

'You almost had me.'

'What do you mean?'

'I can sit, listen and believe,
You are about to make sense?
And then...
Suddenly,
The Earth begins to drift away.'
