Lessons from the Past
Give an ear to my teaching,
Inclined your ear to the Word;
To what my mouth is preaching,
Heed to what as it is heard.
I speak in a parable,
Utter dark sayings of old;
That has been declarable,
Through generations been told.
Things that we have heard and known
That our fathers have said;
That we are never alone,
And to what we have been fed.
From children we shall not hide,
But tell next generation;
Glorious deeds that will guide,
Them through the new creation.
Wonderful things God had done,
To praise the Lord of His might;
Finishing what had begun,
So that we can see the light.
He gave us to testify,
About His appointed Law;
As to never to deny,
And never worry of a flaw.
That our children will know,
And the children yet unborn;
Of what righteousness will show,
While on earth we sojourn.
So that we can set their hope,
Not forget the works of God;
With adversities as to cope,
But to honor Him and laud.
A righteous generation,
Not stubborn and rebellious;
To be a new creation,
Rather than being jealous.
