overflowing cups

alone once again
not the first time
it wont be the last time
I try so hard to make them stay
hold too tight they pop out of my hand
and shit here we go again

did I pour too much?
sorry, I didn't know that was a thing
the more the better
oh, wait no? now the floor is a mess
you handed it to me
let me fill it up for you with love
you'll think I hate you
if I stop, so I'll just keep on going
overflowing cups

won't you just stay
stick with me
you said you'd stay
why are you trying to run away
you said you knew me and were okay
and shit here we go again

you want me to stop?
a little too late know, don't you think?
you're about to drown
didn't realize 'till you wanted to run
I can make it better
you just need a little bit more of it
you tell me to stop
I can't hear you with all these
overflowing cups

now I'm flooding this place up
the water wont let you run
why are you trying to run?
isn't this enough?

don't you like the feeling of rain?
you said you did all the time
don't you enjoy it this time?
did I do enough?

don't walk through that door
you say you're coming back
but I can feel it in your eyes
once I was all you loved
now its all just a big fat lie
if it means you can get out

About this poem

I wrote this after analyzing what had happened and what failed in my most recent relationship. It's written out of despair, of trying so hard to make someone stay but no matter what, they'll leave, and I'm left wondering why.
