Can You
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Those thoughts we all can have,
About wishing for more cash.
Yet never seem to have enough,
Kept stored away to keep stashed!
But can you,
Be that one to think what you do?
Or what it is that could be improved.
That makes this World a better place.
Done to do with a smile on your face.
Everyday?
Can you...
Be thankful and say this to express.
To yourself then to someone else?
Just to let them know you care.
Without attention to get it or fanfare!
Can you...
Get up every morning to pray?
Before you start to moan and sigh.
Or criticize somebody.
Can you...
Do this and move on?
Can you...
Do this and move on from your past?
A past already lived to have had.
Can you?
Can you...
Be thankful and say this to express?
To yourself then to someone else.
Just to let them know your care,
And aware that they are there.
Can you...
Be happier than you feel you do?
And share this feeling with someone new.
Someone you had not before to meet.
Or may never see again.
Can you...
Leave the past to stay where it is?
Knowing to forgive is to live.
But not forget,
Each day you can make better.
Each day you can make better.
Can you live each day to get to make it better?
Can you live each day you're living,
Even better!
Dismiss those pessimists as if bad weather.
Like the past that has gone,
Taking time moving on.
Is nolonger remaining,
To claim belongs to anyone.
Declaring it theirs to own!
Neither anguish, despair...
Or leftover sour milk.
Kept to pour on old and rotten B.S.
Stinking up the same petty mess.
Leave it addressed,
By other fools addicted to being stressed out!
Can you...
Move on?
'I can do anything you can do better.
I can do anything better than you.'
No you can't
'Yes I can, yes I can, yes...I can!'
Sounds good.
Now prove it!
