Liberty

Emilia Acabeo 1949 (Puerto Rico)

A woman of bronze
Unhappy
Stands at the mouth of New York Harbour
A Roman goddess
Clutching a
Torch above her head
Always relentless observing a
Path obscured
Forgotten  freedom light
Standing
Looking out confused
Her base inscribed with words
Trampled by insurrection
Attempts to incite violence
Organized attacks and
Deliberately shared misinformation
She cries for freedom and democracy
Knowing
Shackles not broken lie at her feet
