I think of you

Anthony Ferrante 1973 (Windsor)

As I travel from land to land, I pray for a safe return, and think of you,
Across borders, rivers and mountain tops, lakes and oceans,
Hours of travels from dusk to dawn,
Early mornings in the thick of fog, to earn my labour, I pray for a safe return, and think of you,
From country to country, city to city, by road or train or air,
Across the flats of lands, around hills, up and down mountains,
Through the forests and along the coastal seas,
Before I arrive, I pray for a safe return, and think of you,
As I set off on my next journey, I dare not think of food or pleasure,
For another moment spent away from you, is another moment of despair,
I'm on a mission, to come back home, and hold my loves once more,
And until I'm there with open arms, I pray for a safe return, and think of you.

About this poem

My times spent away from my kids and family, the sacrifice that some of us dads must go through to put food on the table, a roof over their heads, and clothes on their backs, going against the current of this world to provide for the ones I love.
