Mismatched Attractions

Listen to them.
The ones who claim,
What it is they say repeatedly...
Who and what it is to dislike.
Trying to convince,
Others...
From Sun up until midnight.
With a hope to pray,
Those who listen are convinced.
And with a kept distance.
To stay away from what they want to get.

Just for themselves to have.
To know...
They were successfully selfish about it.

'You told us how disgusted,
Who that person was to represent.
What they had and everything about them.
And here you are,
Looking thrilled as if...
You had accomplished something!'

'Well...
I must admit.
Being a hypocrite has always been,
One of my most embarrassing attributes.
And besides,
How can you expect me...
To hide and deny,
I'm weak when it comes to lieing.'

'To us?'

'Oh no. No...
To myself!
I'm too honest to deceive you like that.
You should know by now,
If I repeatedly say I hate something...
That is what I want wished most to get.
And now that I have it,
What's the big deal?'

'But...
What you have done is deception!'

'Well...
That's your point of view.
However...
What would you do?
If your friends were drooling over,
Something you wanted to have too?
And your chances are slim,
To bring home the bacon.
I call that...
Removing the field,
Of all and any suspected competition!'

'I thought you said,
You were a devoted vegetarian?'

'I am.
But would you leave this piece of meat,
Left alone on the field of play.
Seeking to be heated.
Thawed out and raw to want someone,
To prevent its aging to ultimately decay!?'

'What kind of anology is that?'

'My own these times to find beneficial!'

'Look...
No excuses do I make, but...
Aging calls,
For selfish, thoughtless desperate actions!
