DON’T JUDGE

Denise Chadwick 1965 (New Jersey)

Why do you judge me? I don’t understand.
Are you intimidated by the person I am?
I am not like you, or anyone else you may see?
No I am not you, I am just me.

I am unique, I am not a clone.
I am not a possession that someone can own.
You cannot mold me to be someone I’m not.
I will not conform to your vision of hot.

No I am not you, I love who I am.
I am unique you must understand.
So please don’t judge me, I won’t judge you.
Accept who I am, that’s all you can do.

We all are different, No two are the same.
You do not know me; I won’t play your game.
Accept who I am or leave me alone.
I am unique and I won’t be your clone.

Who I am is no sin, In God’s eyes or mine.
If you just walk away, we will be fine.
Yes, we are all different, I’m sure you can see.
We are as different, as two people can be.

Yet you stand there and judge me without even a clue.
I am just me; I don’t want to be you.
Yet you still judge me and I don’t even know why.
We could be friends if you would give it a try.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because at the time, I realized how much bullying was going on and I felt compelled to write about it.
