VAMPIRES IN THE 21ST CENTURY: THE DIGITAL CAMERA
Vampires stalk the streets by night
And throughout the daylight too,
But instead of drinking blood of old
They now suck up battery juice.
Vampires cost a fortune to feed
Twenty-five bucks will get you twenty pix,
And when it comes to value for money
It's strictly a case of nix.
Computerised vampires stalk your wallet
Determined to make a rich man poor,
Imbibing your cash like sweet, sweet wine
Shredding your budget with savage claws.
And for those of us who are not rich
Avoid the vampire's fiscal bite,
Keep your largesse locked away
As for your living you have to fight.
If the vampire locks his fangs upon
Your wallet or your bank balance,
You'll find yourself living on the streets
A victim of computerised talons.
Beware the vampire's financial bite
Beware of flushing all your cash away,
The digital vampire is stalking you
Both in the night and through the day.
THE END

About this poem
In late 2004, I started selling on the internet to supplement my income, only to find my scanner could not produce good enough pictures. So I lashed out on a digital camera, only to find my finances going backwards. It cost $10 for 2 lithium batteries, which took at most 40 pictures, with 6 or 7 pictures needed per item to get a good enough pic. With 90%+ of items listed on eSelling sites not selling, it became impossible to break even against the 21st century’s equivalent of the vampire: the digital camera. more »
