Copium fever dream

The smokes elevated me to cloud nine,
A stage of euphoria set in,
On the back of dear copium,
I was no longer in chaotic Wawasanland,
Where dreams of flying cars disappeared,
Hibiscuses withered,
And visions of astronauts blasted off,
As the warmth of Timbuktu embraced me.

About this poem

This poem is intended to express the poet’s reluctance to accept that his homeland will be unlikely to turn out to be the prosperous place as once hoped and his attempt to cope with the sadness that comes with seeing his homeland decay.
