Passing Day

Time races on
Pulling us at blistering speeds
My face darkens with shadow
The light in my eyes fade
Strong hands begin to tremble
I am left with only memories of earlier days
Look back to see a few years have become twenty
Before we know what has happened there's epiphany
Enlightening us
None of the trinkets we worked for lasted
The position and power has been usurped
Taken by the freshest of youths
What were we fighting for?
Time has ceased its pace to a crawl
Now that we have nothing to live for
For those whose mental faculties remain
What is left to us is to ponder these things
Inside is a tempest, a raging sea of anguish
Outside is the decayed remains of what was
