The Purpose of Proverbs
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
To know wisdom and instruction,
To understand words of insight;
To perceive to void seduction,
From the Lord that is a delight.
To be able to deal with wise,
With judgment having righteousness;
Enabled to open your eyes,
Through a given equal justice.
To give prudence to the simple,
Knowledge and discretion to youth;
Reacting to other people,
So they understand the truth.
Let the wise hear increase learning,
Who perceives to obtain guidance;
Shall unto wise counsels yearning,
Living the Word for abidance.
To interpret what the Word tells,
Words of the wise and their riddles;
Avoiding where the darkness dwells,
Understanding what it twiddles.
The fear of the Lord is the start,
Of having knowledge and wisdom;
That fools are not taking to heart,
How we should enter His Kingdom.
The proverbs are graceful garland,
For your head and chains on your neck;
As you travel out through the land,
No matter where that you might trek.
