The Light
Edward F Carson 1947 (USA)
In the mystic garden
Where darkness dare not go
I walk the stone paths
Filled with wetted snow
And dream the ancient dreams
Of things I hope to know
I sing a hymn to the silence
That forever knows my name
And a lullaby to the mother
Who need not cry in shame
Steamboats and anchors
In Lisbon bay
Sailors sing while seagulls play
I look to the sky
For a sign from above
Then sit on the dock
And wait for my love
I've sailed all the oceans
Flew high above the clouds
For all to see
But I really don't know
What I'd like and hope to be
Do I walk with angels
Or help the devil reign
Am I a flower blooming
Or just a dotted stain
But oh, to feel the hope of first love
And see her smile again
