SOLSTICE

JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)

SOLSTICE

Ride on the mist across the plain moor
Be there before dawn this vision ensure
To wait for the star that rises just here
Hold close the new born to open the year

As it grows colder a light rises anew
At the megalith made damp stood out in the dew
Above the heel stone rays burst from a star
Healing great wounds left by time’s scar

And as it climbs higher the solstice reborn
Hears every new name of each child born
The witness betrothal has sought to be told
Yet a deity worshiped this bright ring of gold

The counter of birthdays the keeper of years
A hearer of secrets spoke low in whispers
From here the days lengthen and darkness will fade
Subduing the blackness of nights renegade

As it scorches through sky and burns off the mist
The warning is taken for the moon to desist
And above the heel stone along all lines that lay
New life is reborn upon Solstice day
