Identity Evanescence

They call me a nescient
I lost my innocence,
But please don’t come near me
My mind of dissonance

I was just a kid once,
But dispose of that skin
I’m a young woman now
The media’s walking sin

I’ll rip out all my hair
Then tear off my two breasts—
An object in their eyes
A world corrupt by pests

A man’s sex pedestal
The death of her selfhood
There’s no escaping now,
For this is womanhood

About this poem

I am a woman and I am a victim of sexual assault. This poem resonates with what the experience is like for me. I have an art social media account in which I make many poems and paintings that express my feelings as a survivor.
