Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time
I was but a child
Innocent or blind?
Tame or wild?

Who is to say which one I was
I spent my time in a dream world
Where nothing bad could touch me
Or could it?

People don't seem to understand
That children are so fragile
No matter how strong they are
They can be broken with a word,
A gesture, a forgotten promise.

Teach that same child
Of unconditional love
Of deepest understanding
Of greatest worth
And you will have
Saved a Universe

Carla J Suggs

Masters in English/Creative Writing Currently writing several tales, one of which is the beginning of a science fiction series. I also write YA, romance, and fantasy; not necessarily in that order. I used to be an active poet on the old site. Luckily, I saved my poetry before the site tanked. I'm going to assume that all records of awards, publishing, and mentions are gone as well? A pity. more…
