for all teenagers with divorced parents

would my life be easier
if my parents had never divorced?
i guess we’ll never know.

would my life be easier
if my dad never had cheated on my mom?
i guess we’ll never know.

sometimes, though, i like to imagine
what my life would be
if none of that had ever happened.

would i be happier?
i guess we’ll never know.

but something certain is, that
my mom wouldn’t have another child with another man.
my dad wouldn’t have another child with another woman.

i wouldn’t be stuck at home watching over the kids.
i would be free to go out on weekends.
without worrying about the kids,
and thinking “oh, who’s going to stay with them?”

something certain is, that
i would be capable of fully enjoying my teenage years.
i wouldn’t stress about other kids’ homework.
i would be able to travel more.

but at the end,
i guess we’ll never know.
