Here In Twenty-Twenty

Spyder rider in the desert
At twenty-four in fifty-five
At forty-six and forty-one
Nine thirty at five forty-five
A nineteen fifty pickup truck
Turned to the nine and straight-away
James Dean went through the twelve portal
Six twenty DOA

He took the bullets
Hindsight is never what it seems
Shiny objects and sparkly smiles
Light and shadow on a great big screen
Left us here in twenty-twenty
Rebels without a dream

Eleven twenty-two in sixty-three
Turned to the nine near Elm and Main
Twelve-thirty central standard time
A presidential motorcade
Rushed to Parkland Memorial
The forty-six year JFK
Taken through the twelve portal
One o'clock DOA

He took the bullets
Hindsight is never what it seems
Shiny objects and sparkly smiles
Light and shadow on a great big screen
Left us here in twenty-twenty
Rebels without a dream

Sanitation workers out on strike
Hungry as beggars at the gate
In three oh six at six oh one
Oh four oh four in sixty-eight
He was a rebel with a dream
In the sights of a man named Ray
On a balcony in the twelve portal
Seven oh five DOA

He took the bullets
Hindsight is never what it seems
Shiny objects and sparkly smiles
Light and shadow on a great big screen
Left us here in twenty-twenty
Rebels without a dream

Now the Gates of Hell are open wide
Dr. Faust is in his prime
Seven billion magic bullets
And a few of the other kind

In hindsight, twenty-twenty
Made a prophet of Shakespeare
He said Hell is empty
And the devils are all here
If we ever want law and order
To remove this wicked fog
We'll drag the lawyers out in the street
And shoot 'em down like dogs

We took the bullets
Nothing is ever what it seems
Shiny objects and sparkly smiles
Light and shadow on a great big screen
Here in twenty-twenty
We're just rebels without a dream
