Riches Untold
I separate myself from you
As the moon separates from the sun
The cream separates from the milk
The pond separates from the scum
We all seek The Great Uniter
Thirty pieces of forked silver tongue
A gold standard heart, gold-plated
Iron pyrite for old, and for young
They say new friends are silver
They say old friends are gold
A virtuous woman more precious
Than rubies or riches untold
It was not a righteous Christian
Floated Moses downstream that day
It was no star-crossed New Age witch
Sent him on his appointed way
No inner-flowered Bodhi buddy
Not Ma Nature's pottage of sod
No swords of the Hordes of Ishmael
Oh no, it was the Ize of God
They say new friends are silver
They say old friends are gold
A virtuous woman more precious
Than rubies or riches untold
We legalize our rationale
Spritualize group fantasies
Mesmerize with criminal lies
Politicize our parodies
East of Eden, devise and scheme
Wynken blinken in the Land of Nod
At Truth's Crossroad, The Great Divide
Spoken softly, the Ize of God
They say new friends are silver
They say old friends are gold
A virtuous woman more precious
Than rubies or riches untold
I'll hang upon no cross for you
That trick has already been tried
Who'll hear or see though One returned
From the grave even after He died?
How can God allow this suffering?
I have a question for you:
The empty cross, the empty grave,
What if it really is true?
They say new friends are silver
They say old friends are gold
A virtuous woman more precious
Than rubies or riches untold
