Analysis of We don't choose the ones we love

Our hearts are the seats of emotion
And are seldomly ruled by our head
Yet, despite what we will, some decisions may still
Be impelled more by love - some have said

Could a 'mom' not have love for her new born
Or God to the world just dismiss
Would our lungs that exhale just forget to inhale
All the air that they need to exist

Our love, much the same, is instinctive
No control of it's force will you find
There are those who imprint by their love incident
A bond to each soul they've entwined

I fight 'cause I don't want to love you
'But my heart has a will to survive
And my head tells my heart that its' pain will soon part
Yet the soul never feels quite alive

Though the years and my shell have moved onward
I'm a ghost of a man you might see
'Cause I live in the past where my heart has held fast
To a love that has since captured me
