Analysis of Epiphany
Looking out the window from the eighty-second floor
There's a city at my feet and then a knocking at my door
I turn and face my smiling wife, I give a mighty grin
"I'm so surprised to see you! Hurry up, come on in!"
As she takes a step I see a shadow cross her face
Her smile disappearing as her body starts to brace
Curious I make my way across the darkened room
I noticed I could smell her sweat instead of her perfume
Looking deep into her eyes as if I were to see
But tears well up, she shuts them just as tight as they can be
Then she pulls me to her and she whispers in my ear
"I want to say I love you, very much, I'm glad I'm here"
Still not knowing what had caused such drastic change of mood
I held my wife and stroked her hair then felt the building move
The sound of breaking glass and then the screams from down the hall
I paid them no attention and ignored the growing pall
Final-ly she looked at me, and reflected in her eyes
I saw the shadow flying in from the blueness of the skies
All at once I understood as the truth came crashing through
Time enough for one last kiss and a simple "I love you"
