Analysis of Death Sentence
Sometimes I'm floored to hear
my eldest daughter frontload
her sentence with the time bomb:
"When you die..." That clause
causes me to slide off the icy road
till I, clinging to a rulebook pause,
mentally insert the comma after "die"
and travel back along the pitch
and marrow of her statement's
true intent: a passing thought
about my passing, not a plot
speeding up the period.
