Analysis of A Broken Teaspoon

In the distance leaves
intermingled with paper,
they caught my gaze as I stared;
dead-eyed.

Reflection wrapped condensation
into blue pools of stagnant breath.

Everyday invaded -
as it always does,
subtle musical notes,
sounds belched: fridge-freezer
bubbles in heated water.

Language crashed against
a moan; it tunnelled
its way from cracked lips
with a broken teaspoon.

Love spat on the carpet behind
this statuesque audition,
dignity did not bother to grin this time,
it just considered the stain.

Enlightenment flickered
and died as I swerved from cold glass
to reach for a branch of memory.

Her laughter seemed detached,
those sparkling colours not so bright
in hindsight's vicious twist.

Shrugs bottled themselves up
in shoulders; slouched,
waste not - want not -
they would be used
in a futuristic paradise perhaps.

As I watched nature
and man's decay giggle
in the garden; stretched,
defeat scurried away,
resignation stepped up;
fresh-faced - eager to please,
it juggled present emotions
across the breadth of the past.
