Analysis of L'interprète

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

L'inclinaison de ce vieux saule
Sur le vieil étang soucieux
Que pas une brise ne frôle,
A quelque chose de pieux.

Et l'on dirait que chaque feuille,
Ayant cessé son trémolo,
Pompe le mystère de l'eau
Et dévotement se recueille.

Or, soudain, y perchant son vol,
Voici qu'un petit rossignol,
Tendre interprète d'aventure,

Pour l'arbre adresse à l'Inconnu,
Dans un lamento soutenu,
La prière de la Nature !
