Ce qui luit dans les yeux des vierges
C’est un songe vague et tremblant,
Un songe végétal et blanc
Comme le nénuphar des berges.

Tant que l’Amour, dans ses auberges,
Ne leur sert que du vin troublant,
Ce qui luit dans les yeux des vierges
C’est un songe vague et tremblant.

Mais du jour où tu les héberges,
Ô Plaisir, hôtelier brûlant,
Ton souffle humide, âcre et dolent
Éteint, comme on éteint des cierges,
Ce qui luit dans les yeux des vierges !
