La solitude est bien l’hôtesse
Qui convient à ce lac profond :
Son saule unique et lui se font
Le vis-à-vis de la tristesse.

Immobiles ou se mouvant
Ils joignent leurs mélancolies,
Par les froidures, sous les pluies,
Dans le soleil et dans le vent.

Ils échangent même en secret
Ce qui les charme ou les distrait.
L’arbre a des oiseaux dans ses branches,

Il les montre au Lac qui, toujours,
À fleur d’eau lui montre à son tour
Ses belles carpes et ses tanches !
