Analysis of Le forgeron

Dans sa forge aux murs bas d'où le jour va s'enfuir.
Haut, roide, et sec du cou, des jambes et du buste,
Il tire, mécanique, en tablier de cuir,
La chaîne d'acier clair du grand soufflet robuste.

Il regarde fourcher, rougeoyer et bleuir
Les langues de la flamme en leur fourneau tout fruste,
Et voici que des glas tintent sinistres... juste :
Le crépuscule alors vient de s'évanouir.

Croisant ses maigres bras poilus,
Il songe à celle qui n'est plus.
Dans ses yeux creux des larmes roulent.

Et le brasier dont il reluit,
Sur sa joue osseuse les cuit
A mesure qu'elles y coulent.
