Analysis of La Vipère

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

Pauvre serpent, montre ta tête
Aplatie et triangulaire.
Par ce soleil caniculaire
Dors en paix, formidable bête !

Tu siffles comme une tempête,
Mais j’ai pitié de ta colère.
Pauvre serpent, montre ta tête
Aplatie et triangulaire !

C’est bien doux qu’ici je m’arrête :
Sans te bénir, je te tolère,
Car aujourd’hui l’amour m’éclaire,
Et j’en ai l’âme toute en fête.
Pauvre serpent ! montre ta tête !
