À l’heure où le grillon racle sa ritournelle,
Lorsque le jour s’en va du monde curieux,
La tonnelle profonde, au banc mystérieux,
Tressaille en regardant la montagne éternelle.

Là, mon rêve enivré d’une paix solennelle
Poursuit nonchalamment son vol silencieux,
Car tous les bruits du soir, rauques et gracieux,
Arrivent tamisés dans la bonne tonnelle.

Aux quatre coins du clos, le moindre vent rôdeur
Emporte la sauvage et résineuse odeur
Des branches de sapins dont elle est recouverte ;

Et de loin, le soleil qui meurt dans les cieux blancs,
À travers son treillis de feuillages tremblants
Jette un rayon pourpré dans sa pénombre verte.
