La Conscience voit dans nous
Comme le chat dans les ténèbres.
Tous ! les obscurs et les célèbres,
L’impie et le moine à genoux,
Nous cachons en vain nos dessous
À ses regards froids et funèbres !
La Conscience voit dans nous
Comme le chat dans les ténèbres.
Tant que l’Esprit n’est pas dissous,
Et que le sang bat les vertèbres,
Elle déchiffre nos Algèbres,
Et plonge au fond de nos remous.
La Conscience voit dans nous !
