Analysis of Hello...Goodbye!

Hello peppery sun that rises from sleep!
As you welcome the day and greet all folk.
Goodbye sparkling stars that sprinkle the sky,
We’ll meet later and romance through the night.

Hello passionate breeze that caresses my skin!
I love your soothing touch as you embrace me so.
Goodbye night air that excites my bones,
Your presence remains so teasingly sweet.

Hello adoring flowers that clothe the day!
Your beauty is so extravagantly sweet.
Goodbye moonlight that showers my path,
We’ll travel together when we meet again.

Hello tantalizing smell of tea so refreshing!
You beckon to me the start of a new day.
Goodbye night rest that fulfils my desire,
You’ve dressed me in the most wonderful gear.

Now I’m ready to face my new day!

About this poem

This poem speaks of the beauty of life and nature. It uses imagery to give personality to some elements of nature and life, which appeals to me. "Hello" ushers in a new day and the joys which it brings with it, while "Goodbye" ends a most beautiful and rewarding night, which sets the stage for the day ahead. As a lover of nature, the poem prepares me for the challenges of a new day.

Verdina Hunte (nee Boyce)

I live in small Island in the Caribbean, called Barbados. From a very young age I have always dreamed of being a poet and author, and have held a passion for poetry and writing, for many years. Writing has been my solace during some very difficult times in my life. As a young girl, I embarked on a course of study, by the Writer's Bureau in February 2001, called "Creative Writing", but some time into the course, I was forced to discontinue my studies, due to personal challenges. Since then, my life has taken a different path, and my dream of poetry and writing was shelved for many, many years, until now, when it was recently revived. While cleaning, I came across a small selection of poems which I had written during that difficult time, but was never able to publicize them. The memories of my dream came rushing back to me, and it was then that I realize, my dream had never died. Hence the reason I've decided to pursue my passion. My first step is to surround myself with people of acclaim in poetry and writing, with whom I can share my love of poetry, and draw from the wealth of experience which they possess. more…
