Analysis of Because of you

A nameless face poisoned the well and the water turned to steel.
I bought the lie you sold to me, that your heart would always feel.
It took a second for your eyes to see,
what only fools rush in for.
And a moment to tear it all apart,
when you threw me to the wolves.

I pled my case and used our start to hope you would remember.
But all you did was take my words and make me resent her.
You think I didn’t know who out there wanted us to fall.
It didn’t take long for me to realize, I’m the rose in her thorn.

The only one who had the power to complicate your mind.
To cloud your judgement and paint me black so you couldn’t see that night.
Something that you couldn’t tell was how this mistake would cause you hurt
The doubt you had in my true self would haunt you through this earth

It took a day for you to know you made a dead end turn
You can’t come back from the things you said even when you’ve learned
I’ll always have your final burn, resting in my heart
You’ll always be the one who broke me, you have left your mark.

I thank you now for all you did but the gift was still returned
I want no memory of the time you truly thought the worst
Time heals only wounds that never cut that deep
That never find the bone and leave a scar that can’t be seen

You took the man I thought I knew and turned him into shame
And nothing he has done since then made up for all that pain
I say I love with all my heart but that just isn’t true
There is still that piece, hidden deep inside, that never stopped
regretting you

A place that never stops remembering,
That plays your words; the ballad never ending,
It died that night before it grew,
We had something they could undo,

I always said that one mistake,
could not tear apart the years we made,
How foolish of me.
If you’ve done this once, you’ll do it again
Maybe not now but years from when?
And where will I be then?

I can still feel the pressure,
Your claws coming for my hands,
Backing me into the corner,
You could never truly understand,
What I went through,
When nothing I said to you,
was right!
You always had the end in sight,
It was only ever going to go one way.

You’d take the faith I put into you and throw it all away,
You thought you hadn’t heard it wrong and that put me to shame,
You took the man I thought I knew and painted him all grey
And nothing he has done since then made up for all the pain

I say I love with all my heart but that just isn’t true
There is still that piece, hidden deep inside, that never stops hurting
because of you.

About this poem

A tale of love and how false accusations can leave lasting marks that never heal. Even after forgiveness. You never forget.
