Analysis of Mother
My dear you are special, you are handsome and sweet
And I am your mother, your life is my treat.
I held you inside me and gave you great care
To hurt you would be something no one would dare.
Yes I am your mother and you are my son,
Two people together but living as one
I work and I pray and I do all I can,
To transform this boy to an upstanding man.
And never will come the day you will grieve,
Because I am your mother and I will not leave.
These are the thoughts of a small little boy,
A fantasy land where his life has great joy.
He closes his eyes and he shuts out the noise,
Alone and abandoned he plays with his toys.
"Where is my mother oh where has she gone?"
"I thought that she loved me, I guess I was wrong."
He wants nothing more then to be in her arms,
Surround by love and protected from harm.
But mother is gone, she is selfish and vain,
Consumed with herself she rejects her son's pain.
When the small little boy can not handle the shame,
He detaches himself and then shifts all the blame.
"Where is my mother, oh where did she go?"
"Shut up stupid self cause you already know."
And so the small boy grows into a man,
A fake and a fraud and a man he can't stand.
He keeps himself hidden behind that ol' mask,
He is drowning in sadness and afraid of his past.
His relationships suffer and his friendships grow cold,
Alone and abandoned, but boy is now old.
Still haunted with questions of why did you leave,
The man puts down his head to quietly grieve.
"You were my mother and you had my heart,
But now you are nothing 6 feet in the dark."
"Say what you want about who I've become,
Only you could have saved me when I was still young."
"But now I am old and it is to late,
You are waiting in hell and this to is my fate."
Together at last and forever we stay,
Bound up in our sin that has made us this way.

About this poem
I dated a narcissist for 2 years. Before him I knew nothing about the personality disorder. I fell madly in love with him, but not to long into the relationship he started behaving very strange. I continued to find myself in these repeated cycles and eventually learned her suffered with NPD. I have dedicated countless hours to learning about the disorder and where it originates from. This poem represents my findings.
