Analysis of Empty space

Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)

Prayerful hands
joined together

Reaching halfway
around the world

Trying to make
conversation with one another.
As we contemplate
peacefully living together

Embracing hearts skip a beat
Our hearts shudder

Tragedy
comes without warning
In waves
repeatedly
striking harsh and deep

We are helpless in its wake
Our consciousness
becomes enflamed

As they are swept away
 forever
Though desperately
we continue
calling their names

Ending lifetimes
of memories
Removing precious lifelines

Seeing only
the joyful memories
of people

Who had helped
make our reality
A more loving place
to be

Loved ones faces
disappear from view
Some
lost without a trace

All happiness
escapes
Suddenly erased
are streams of faith

Extended no more
Loved ones
we can’t call for

Knowing
there will be no answer
reaching for higher ground

Finding only empty
