Analysis of Here I am

Here I am.

Here, where the ancient
and modern meet, here I am.

Here, where the analogue and the digital meet, here I am.

Here, where the career ends and the pension begins, here I am.

Here, where the once full home is now a lonely abode, here I am.

Here, where the vibrant body and the tiring body meet, here I am.

Here, where the doctoral degree is in the kitty, and the nudge to study more is devoid of zeal, here I am.

Here, where the bravado of a sexagenarian life meets the anxiety of an uncertain tomorrow, here  I am.

Here, where the gaze is shifting from the ephemeral to the ethereal, here I am.

About this poem

A lyrical poem that peers into the life of a sexagenarian who recently retired. The harsh reality of a life, transforming from building a home, career, and family into the uncertainty of a retired lifestyle; where the kids are grown and left home; where the home is now a lonely one; where material possessions and passionate pursuits, no longer holds any attraction.
