Analysis of SOUL FOOD

mad hippie poet 1974 (new jersey)

I spill my soul into this bottle, having it become the ink that stains the lines of this paper that are my escape from my demons the thoughts that bare all of me are some redemption that I thought I could never know nor have. I sit here by the riverbank, watching the water flow. I jump in because they say water cleanses even if it is from the black muddy river, for every sinner once gave too much the words I speak are for the mind, body, and soul to touch.

It gets easier to strip yourself down and listen to the earth's sound telling you to believe in who you were sent to be. They are always to be found within yourself. I had to lose anything and nothing to find everything I had brought to the table and all I had left on my mother's shelf.

I found my soul food and got a slice of my grandmother's cornbread. She always said Baby boy, you will never go unfeed as long as you remember who you are and where you have been and now going.

It is not always your stomach that you need to feed
now the sun is shining bright on me night and day. I got that vibe tucked away in my hippie sack and all the shooting stars I had collected. I came so far to hear that music play and get myself a never-lasting plate of my soul food, so I will never go hungry again.

Now I am starting to realize that I have more than I need to feast on, even though once in a while, ill need a drink to put a smile on my face as I sit and eat my soul food for awhile.
