Heel of my Fathers Boot

He wore those boots
All his life in rain,
Sun, soil, snow and sod
His boots stuck him
To the ground
And growing up
I looked around
To stand in his boots
On that ground
Where he stood

Here I tried and tried
To fit them on
But all I could be
Was the mark of a heel
From his boot

From where he stood
I remember
Him being let down
When his boot would
Not fit my ground
And never would I see
Him look at me and try
To pull my boot on

From where I stood
I remember
It was me being let down
But now back I stand
On his ground
From where he stood
And here he now lies
Below the heel of my boot
