Analysis of The Lonesome Night Rider

Riding across the plains. For so many days.
  Hearing the thunderous hooves that
  pounce. On these open terrains.

You can hear the wind echo and call out
your name. The Lonesome Night Rider.

The story tells of a Lonesome Night Rider.
Who searches endlessly for his lost love.
Cursed to never rest of a unwilling justice
and a broken heart. No one knows it's
   true orgin.

Those who have seen this image. See a
silhouette. Tall, lean, saddling up. Riding
within the sun on his dark horse.

Upon seeing this glimpse. You can't help
but, be drawned being filled with mixed
emotions. A sense of sadness and peace
   is bestowed upon them.
   Others fear this wandering soul.

On his noble steed. Majestic, strong and
fearless. With a mane long and free brushing
against the wind. Stretching outward like a
  mighty hand of justice.

Never losing focus. A dark shadow who's
face has never been seen. Shed in a veil of
  darkness beneath his hat.

Some say that luck has been brought upon
them. When they see his shadow.
Those who are pure of heart and without
sin. He will grant comfort, forgiveness, and
  good fortune.

Others say that those who hurt. Who are
guilty and have done wrong. He will
  place a curse upon them.
  Consuming them of their own
horrors. Leaving them to drown in there
  own sea of guilt.

Many say you can hear him whistle.
  Tightening those reigns. Hearing the
sound of his spurs as they cling and spark
  beneath his boots.

So serene, so mystical. Riding across
the fog. Beneath the moon light.
To sense a bit of warmth across the
  brim of his hat.
To find peace and a purpose to fill the
void of a broken heart. There was a time.

Where this night rider gave up his reigns.
Who fell in love with a lovely maiden from
town. Bringing flowers every day to this
  fortunate woman named Sophia.
Charming and lovely. A voice that carried.
She sanged in the local brothel

Captivated the hearts of those who saw
her. The one who made him smile and
stole his heart. He was the towns marshall.

Who sought order and justice. Till one day
he was called for war. Saying goodbye to his
lovely Sophia. He got up on his noble horse.
Leaving his trusted deputy to take his
place of his beloved town. Being gone for
three days. Not a single day went by he
didn't think about his lovely Sophia.

Till the day came that the war was done.
He rode day and night eager to find his one
and only love. When upon returning to find.
The brothel was demolished. His home had
  been burned down and his
beloved Sophia was found hanging from a
 nearby oak tree.

Feeling a wave of remorse and sadness
and a torn heart. He made his way and
cut her down carrying her away in the dark.
  No one heard his cries.
For the next three days he was never
the same. Carring a locket of Sophia around
his chest. Just to feel her close.

Never resting to find those responsible.
Who shared the same fate. Day by day the
pain and sadness was too unbearable.
That began to feast on his soul.
Till one day he got up on his horse and rode
out of town. Leaving all of his belongings
and never looking behind. No one knows
  what became of him.

All that was found was his marshall badge.
That laid next to a wooden cross beneath
a willow tree. Where his beloved Sophia
laid. Years have come and gone. Some
say he still roams these hills in search of
   love and justice.

Never be frighten if so; you stare one day
towards the color of a blue moon and you
see his shadow on top of crescent
  valleys. Gliding across the horizon.

Hearing the cry of the lonesome gray
wolf that shatters the midnight sky.
Know that he is watching close.

Next time you are alone and you hear
the sound of hooves pounding across
the desert plains or feel the hairs of
the back of your neck stand up.

Know that he is close and within his
  grasps. Riding along side you.
With his dark horse breathing heavily.
   Leading the way across a
starry sky. The Lonesome Night Rider is
here. Be warned! And on your way.

About this poem

I wrote this as a folk lore story and in song. I heard growing up as a kid. My grandfather would tell me stories. That till this day I appreciate and find very amusing.
