Analysis of Boiling Water

Look into the pot—see your eyes blink back
Look into the pot—the waters are still
Look into the pot—the metal shine dims
Look into the pot—there’s a ripple
Then two
Then three
Then bubbles
Then boils

Look into the pot—your eyes are gone
Look into the pot—the water steams
Look into the pot—the kitchen is dark
Look into the pot—an angry drop sloshes
Then two
Then three
Then a tablespoon
Then a cup

Get away from the pot—close your eyes
Get away from the pot—the water rages
Get away from the pot—not even moonlight
Get away from the pot—a drop burns you
Then two
Then three
Through the skin
Then the bone

Get away get away get away get away

Look at the pot—see her eyes blink back
Look at the pot—the water is calm
Look at the pot—a streak of light shines
Look at the pot—like nothing happened
Put a bandaid on the bone
And count to two
Then three
It never happened, right?

What a nice day it is
