Analysis of Not a Forever

The day I saw you in the library with your earphones on and surrounded by a bundle of novels,
I didn't realise then, I had found my oasis in the desert.
So I walked up to you, to make a conversation the way they write about it in books,
And you simply smiled and said everything with your looks.
You asked me if I've ever listened to "In the Wind" song while sharing your earphones with me,
And this is how it all started between You and Me.
Whenever we used to hold hands and look in each other's eyes, you used to say just one word, "Everyday",
Though I never asked what it meant but it eventually became our thing with each passing day.
But now you are gone, maybe in search of a way out of the labyrinth of suffering just like Alaska,
While I sit here trying to seek my Great Perhaps.
I still visit the library with our song playing in the background while people keep coming and going, saying that I should move on.
Even after so many months have gone, the pain is still the same,
And I wish for you to come back to me again.
Though now I understand the meaning of our EVERYDAY and why you never believed in the promises of forever,
And kept calling it an incorrect concept like Hazel Grace whatsoever.

I am a 24 yr old CA aspirant from M.P. I am someone who looks at poetry as a medium to escape to a world with no restraints. Other than poetry and studying for CA exams, I love reading novels, doodling and sometimes binge watching series and movies. I consider that my fondness towards poetry has remained consistent because of my elder sister who always supported me by being my first excited reader of all my poems and also my mom who always encouraged me to be a part of various anthologies and competitions. more…
