Analysis of Morning's Woe

Gregory Jaudon 1988 (Fort Mill, SC)

Head rested on my pillow while rain patters on a tin roof
This soothing sounds comforts me like a warm blanket on this cold, winter morning with clouds casting an Erie darkness
Struggling to exit this bliss
To allow my toes to kiss the cold, mahogany floors
Do I have to get out of bed and open the many doors of today
Can’t I just listen to rain sing this song of harmony
Pitter patter drip drop
Tick tock
I’m doing this dance where my eyes slowly close and suddenly reopen as this internal battle ensues
The seconds are sweeping beneath me reminding me that I live in a world of time
Where moments are captured by what we must do
Versus what we want to be
I want to be immersed in this moment forever
Entangled with the sheets
I want to be present here without a care in the world
Creating my own soundtrack called snorer’s delight
I want to be awakened by the sound of thunder
Giving me the slightest fright
I want to live in dreamer’s land
A world outside of this reality
I want to be one of the rains drops that slide down the roof and evaporate and be released somewhere new
Forever and always I just want to be
But today this will be just another morning’s woe
